Sole Representative of
Overseas Business Services

Expanding a growing business to a new country involves a lot of effort, from business plan to market testing, from complex commercial to legal paperwork. Realising the struggles businesses are facing, alongside generous financial supports, the UK government also has a very special visa scheme for the overseas business to establish a representative office in the UK for the first time.

1. What is the Sole Representative of Overseas Business visa?

Those that would like to send a senior employee of their company to the United Kingdom to build the company’s commercial presence can apply for the Sole Representative of an Overseas Business Visa. This is usually applied for no more than 3 months before travelling overseas. The initial visa allows you to enter and travel from the UK for 3 years then you can request an extension of application for leave to remain which will be valid for 2 years.

The individual that the company will be sending to the United Kingdom as their sole representative must only be employed by the company. They cannot have any other possible business interests. The visa initially permits you to stay within the UK for 3 years and then you are able to permit your visa for another 2 years once it expires. You can then apply for indefinite leave to remain and permanently settle in the UK once you have lived in the UK for 5 years.
